ABOUT

Duplex is pleased to present Timeshare, a site-specific art exhibition within the newly constructed Zaha Hadid building in Chelsea. Overlooking the Highline, 520 West 28th street is the last project Hadid was working on before her death in 2016 and will be her first and only residential building in the world.

Produced by the curation team of Eden Deering and Sydney Fishman, the exhibition spans four residential units on the 13th and 14th floors of the building and has been divided between three young New York based curatorial teams. Bringing together over 50 emerging artists largely based in New York City, the artwork on view will stand as the first inhabitants of the building. The apartments, linked thematically on a number of levels, seek to understand the socio-economic climate that allows for the construction of such luxury condominiums and the participation of emerging artists with in them. Encased within Hadid's own interpretation of domestic space, each apartment will ultimately examine the artificial environment of the showroom and deconstruct notions of the home.

An art film series ran in tandem with the apartment exhibition: TIMESHARE: Reframed. Programmed by Candace Moeller (Cristin Tierney Gallery, NY) and Rebecca Celli (Cargo Film Releasing, NY) Reframed was a presentation of over 30 films in the building’s private IMAX theater. A tribute to the work of Zaha Hadid, each video or film falls into one of the following three themes: The Unexpected, Exquisite Places, and Constructed.
